Support for Windows 10 1809 Upgrade

Post by furstt » Mon Mar 04, 2019 6:00 pm

Hello,

Dreamcade shipped with Windows 10 1803 and I wanted to see if it is recommended to stay on 1803 or if others have upgrade to Windows 10 1809.

Everything is working with 1803 - so I wanted to see what experience others have had with 1809. Thanks!

I think I am on 1809. I check for updates pretty often, and I am able to select the dark explorer theme. I'm pretty sure that was a big thing mentioned about 1809. I have not seen any real issues. YouTube can run into a little lag going full screen, and Pluto.tv has a few hiccups streaming now and again, but that could be my connection.

If i use the TV version of YouTube (here) I am able to link my Android phone with the webpage. I can then use my phone to control the page, and I don't notice lag using it this way.

Mireille2015 has been jumping back and forth between Windows updates. He has also mentioned that the most new driver updates has been causing issues with things. I'll ping him so he can explain in better detail.

If you have not updated your Windows and Intel drivers. And your Replay works like a charm. Then kudos!! Dont mess with something that is not broken. Lol!!

What Ive learned, that the last three Intel driver updates causes some stuttering and lag issues with certain emulators. Intel rebranded the name of the drivers to DCH-xXxX xxx. Before that, it was legacy drivers.

I noticed stuttering in Redream playing Dreamcast and MAME once I turned on HLSL and GLSL settings. Never had this issue before until some driver updates. So I did this. I wiped C drive and installed a fresh 1803 build RST4. No window updates. Updated only Intel graphic drivers only. Noticed lag and stuttering in certain emulators. Then updated windows. Same problem exists.

Then I wiped C drive and installed RST3, and updated to 1809 build. With no updates to Intel Graphic Drivers. Have no issues. So, 1809 build shows no issues. But, if you don't want to risk messing something up, try Macrium Reflect and create an image of C drive. That way, if you have an uh oh moment. You can go back to the original state.

Does the Intel Driver updates happen automatically like the forced windows 10 updates?
If not good I don't plan to do update them. Only reason I do the Windows updates is because they are forced.

No. They are manually updated.
